If I take a VIN to a parts store, can they look up the exact specs of the truck?

Question by Hilary6: If I take a VIN to a parts store, can they look up the exact specs of the truck?

I am trying to buy a intake for my boyfriend for valentine’s day and I don’t know the specifics of the engine size and all that stuff. I don’t want to directly ask him, because that will be obvious, but if I can get the VIN number and take it to Advance Auto Parts, or a similar place, can they look up exactly what I need?

  1. Dr. Car Guy says:

If it’s the stock engine then yes, if not no. Vin number is located on the drivers side dash board, look through the windshield from outside in the corner, also open the drivers door and you will see a sticker, the Vin is on that also.

  2. Country Boy says:

Parts stores can’t. Any dealer who sells that brand of truck can. The vin # is located at the base of the windshield and on the registration. Take the vin # to the car dealer’s parts counter and they can run it through their computer and tell you *every single option, engine, gear ratio, transmission, color, where it was built and time of day it was put together.
